G333C ENGINE Caterpillar

Crankshaft Main Bearings

Usage:

Remove And Install Crankshaft Main Bearings

start by:

a) remove oil pan plate

1. Remove the No. 2 and No. 6 caps (1) for the crankshaft main bearing.

2. Remove the upper half (2) of the main bearings, using tool (B). Put removal tool (B) in the crankshaft oil hole and turn the crankshaft in the direction of normal rotation (counterclockwise as viewed from flywheel end). Remove the lower half of each bearing from the bearing caps.

3. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the upper half of each bearing. Install the upper half of each bearing, using tool (B). Put the bearing into position on the crankshaft and turn the crankshaft in the reverse direction of rotation.

4. Install the lower half (3) of each bearing in the bearing caps. Put the bearing cap into position on the engine and check the bearing clearance, using wire (A). Tighten the bolts to 30 ± 3 lb.ft. (4,1 ± 0,4 mkg). Put a mark on each bolt head and bearing cap then tighten each bolt 90° from the mark. Remove bearing caps, and measure the thickness of the wire. Main bearing clearance must be .0030 to .0059 in. (0,076 to 0,150 mm).

5. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the bolt threads, washers, and lower half of each bearing. Install the bearing caps with the number on the cap toward the same number on the surface to which the oil pan plate fastens.

6. Install and tighten the bolts to 30 ± 3 lb.ft. (4,1 ± 0,4 mkg). Put a mark on each bolt head and bearing cap then tighten each bolt 90° from the mark as shown.

7. Remove the No. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7 main bearing caps. Remove the crankshaft thrust bearing (4) from the No. 7 main bearing position. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the new thrust bearings and install them in the engine. Be sure the oil grooves in the thrust bearings are in the direction of the crankshaft.

8. Do Steps 2 to 6 again for the remainder of the bearings. Check crankshaft end play (thrust bearing clearance), using tool group (C). End play must be .0025 to .0145 in. (0,064 to 0,368 mm). Maximum permissible end play is .025 in. (0,64 mm).

end by:

a) install oil pan plate
