Camshaft

Usage:

Remove Camshaft

start by:

a) remove valve lifters

b) remove timing gear cover

1. Turn the crankshaft until the "C" mark on the crankshaft gear (2) is in alignment with the "C" mark on the camshaft gear.

2. Put a mark on the contacting gear teeth of the camshaft gear (6), idler gear (5) and magneto gear (4) as shown.

3. Remove the fastening bolts (1) for the camshaft thrust washer. Remove the lock and thrust washer (3).

4. Remove the camshaft and gear from the cylinder block.

Install Camshaft

1. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the camshaft lobes and bearing journals.

2. Install the camshaft (1) in the cylinder block.

3. Be sure the "C" marks on the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear are in alignment, when the camshaft is installed. The marks that were put on the magneto gear, idler gear and camshaft gear must also be in alignment.

4. Install thrust washer, lock and fastening bolts for the camshaft.

NOTE: If a new camshaft gear is installed it will be necessary to make an adjustment to magneto timing.

a) install valve lifters

b) install timing gear cover
