Connecting Rod Bearings

Usage:

Remove And Install Connecting Rod Bearings

preparatory steps:

a) remove oil filter base

b) remove engine oil cooler

1. Remove oil level gauge and gauge tube (2).

2. Remove the exhaust manifold water supply line and oil cooler water outlet elbow (Marine engine only).

3. Remove fuel oil drain lines (1), and remove the engine inspection plate (3).

4. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as veiwed from the front of the engine) until rod caps (4) are in position shown.

5. Remove the connecting rod cap and retaining bolts, and remove the lower half of bearings from cap.

6. Push the connecting rod away from the crankshaft and remove upper half of bearing.

7. Install upper half of new connecting rod bearings in connecting rod. Lubricate the bearing and crankshaft journal with clean SAE 30 engine oil. Pull the connecting rod into position on crankshaft.

8. Install lower half of new bearing in cap. Lubricate bearing with clean SAE 30 engine oil.

9. Lubricate the threads of retaining bolts with clean SAE 30 engine oil.

10. Position the connecting rod caps, and install retaining bolts. Tighten each bolt initially 50 ± 5 lb. ft. (6,0 ± 0,69 mkg) plus 180° ± 10° additional turn.

NOTE: When installing rod caps the numbered surfaces must mate.

11. Repeat steps 4 through 11 for remaining bearings.

12. Install engine inspection plate, fuel oil drain lines, oil level gauge tube, and oil level gauge.

a) install oil filter base

b) install engine oil cooler
