Fuel Injection Pump & Governor

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor

1. Rotate the crankshaft to top dead center on compression stroke for No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP DEAD CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING SECTION.

2. Remove both oil filter cases (2) and elements.

3. Remove turbocharger oil supply line (1).

4. Cover all openings on the oil filter base.

5. Disconnect the fuel ratio control sensing line. (Marine engine only).

6. Disconnect the injection pump fuel supply line (3).

7. Disconnect the fuel injection lines (4).

8. Remove ten fuel injection pump housing mounting bolts (5).

9. Remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor-weight 70 lbs. (32 kg).

Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor

1. Position the fuel injection pump housing and governor on the engine.

2. Install all fuel injection pump housing mounting bolts.

3. Connect the fuel injection lines. Tighten retaining nuts to 30 ± 5 lbs. ft. (4,1 ± 0,7 mkg).

4. Connect the fuel supply line.

5. Connect the fuel ratio control sensing line. (Marine engine only).

6. Install the turbocharger oil supply line.

7. Install both oil filter cases and elements.

8. Check the fuel injection pump camshaft timing. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.

Separate Governor From Fuel Injection Pump Housing

preparatory steps:

a) remove fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit.

b) remove fuel ratio control (marine engine)

1. Remove idle screw housing plate assembly.

2. Remove two retaining bolts (4) and remove the solenoid fuel shut-off lever (2).

3. Remove idle screw cover (1).

4. Remove idle screw housing (3).

5. Remove the rack stop collar retaining screw (6).

6. Remove rack stop collar (7), collar (5) and spring (8).

7. Remove the governor-to-fuel injection pump housing mounting bolts.

8. Remove the governor housing.

9. Remove the governor seat assembly (12), washer type spring (11), governor spring (14) washer type spring (10).

10. Remove three mounting bolts (9) and lock that secure the cylinder and weight assemblies (13) to the fuel injection pump housing.

11. Pull the cylinder and weight assemblies straight out to clear locating dowels.

12. Slide the cylinder and weight assemblies sideways to disengage slot in piston from rack (15).

Connect Governor To Fuel Injection Pump Housing

1. Position the cylinder and weight assemblies (1) on the fuel injection pump housing so that the slot in piston is engaged with rack (2).

2. Push the cylinder and weight assemblies onto the locating dowels.

3. Install three mounting bolts (3) and lock.

4. Install the spring type washer on bolt (4) so the inside diameter of spring will contact the guide in governor housing (6).

5. Install governor spring (7), washer type spring (8) and collar (5).

6. Install governor housing (6) and housing mounting bolts.

7. Install spring (12), collar (11) and rack stop collar (9).

8. Install rack stop collar retaining screw (10).

9. Position idle screw housing (15) on the governor.

10. Install the solenoid fuel shut-off lever (13), lever retaining bolts and lock.

11. Install the idle screw housing plate assembly, so that the dowel in the plate engages slot (14).

12. Install the idle screw cover.

concluding steps:

a) install fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit

b) install fuel ratio control (marine engine)

c) set the rack and adjust governor (SEE FUEL RACK SETTING AND GOVERNOR ADJUSTMENTS in TESTING AND ADJUSTING)
