Timing Gear Housing

Usage:

Remove Timing Gear Housing

start by:

a) remove oil pan

b) remove cylinder head assembly

c) remove flywheel housing

1. Turn the crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at "TOP CENTER COMPRESSION" position, and install the timing pin in timing hole in accessory drive shaft.

2. Remove the two plugs (1). Remove the two bolts behind the plugs.

3. Remove the remainder of the bolts that fasten the timing gear housing to cylinder block.

4. Remove the timing gear housing. Weight of the housing is 45 lb. (20 kg).

Install Timing Gear Housing

1. Install a new gasket for the timing gear housing.

2. Put the timing gear housing in position on the engine, and install the bolts.

NOTE: Be sure the timing pin is installed in timing hole in accessory drive shaft before installing the timing gear housing.

3. Install the two plugs in housing.

4. Cut the gasket for timing gear housing even with bottom face of cylinder block and housing.

5. Remove the timing pin from accessory drive shaft.

end by:

a) install flywheel housing

b) install cylinder head assembly

c) install oil pan

d) check timing of injection pump camshaft (See FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING)
