Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
- Install cylinder liners (1) in the cylinder block without the O-ring seals and filler bands.

Illustration 2 g01003760 - Install Tooling (A) and two 5/8"-11 NC bolts
140 mm (5.5 inch) in length. Tighten the bolts evenly to70 N·m (50 lb ft) . - Use Tooling (B) in order to check the liner projection at four locations around the liner. The difference between the four measurements must not be more than
0.05 mm (0.002 inch) .Reference: For additional information about the liner projection tool, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Cylinder Liner Projection" for the engine that is being serviced.
- The average of the four measurements must be
0.0965 ± 0.0455 mm (0.0038 ± 0.0018 inch) . The measurement between liners next to each other must not be more than0.05 mm (0.002 inch) .Show/hide tableIllustration 3 g01003762 Note: The liner projection can change if the liner is turned in the bore.
- If the liner projection is not
0.0965 ± 0.0455 mm (0.0038 ± 0.0018 inch) , check the thickness of liner flange (2) and the depth of the liner bore in the cylinder block. The thickness of liner flange (2) must be10.282 ± 0.020 mm (0.4048 ± 0.0008 inch) . The depth of the liner bore in the cylinder block must be10.19 ± 0.03 mm (0.401 ± 0.001 inch) .Note: If the liner bore in the block is worn and the measurement is not correct, the liner bore can be corrected with a cylinder block counterboring tool.
- Place a mark on the cylinder liner and the cylinder block. You must install the cylinder liners in the original locations.

Illustration 4 g01003767 - Install new O-ring seals (4) on the cylinder liners. Apply liquid soap to the O-ring seals and in the bases in the cylinder block.
Note: The cylinder liners must be installed in the cylinder block immediately after you install filler band (3). Ensure that the marks on the cylinder liners and the cylinder block are in alignment when you install the cylinder liners.
- Apply clean SAE 30 oil on filler band (3) completely and install filler band (3) on the cylinder liner immediately.
