PROBLEM
Certain 140-7091 Carriers (Train 4), 302-2638 Carriers (Train 5) and 140-7121 Output Shafts may have been improperly manufactured and not correctly balanced. Improperly balanced components may result in unsatisfactory service life. The carriers and output shafts have been installed in 450-3837, 446-9392 or 20R-3632 Transmission Arrangements, which are used in 797F Off-Highway Trucks. |
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all 140-7091 Carriers, 302-2638 Carriers, and 140-7121 Output Shafts in dealer parts stock inventory. Refer to the instructions in the rework procedure to inspect the carriers and output shafts. Remove all of these carriers and output shafts from parts stock inventory that do not meet the inspection criteria. Inspect all 446-9392, 450-3837, and 20R-3632 Transmissions in dealer parts stock/dealer exchange inventory that have the serial numbers shown in the chart below. The carriers and output shafts in the transmissions need to be inspected as indicated with a "Yes" in the chart. Not all inspected parts will require replacement. Replace the parts only if they do not pass the inspection. Refer to the attached rework procedure to inspect the transmissions. This parts stock service letter is for the inspection of suspect transmissions that have not been installed in a machine. |

PARTS DISPOSITION
NACD: Hold all (140-7091 Carriers, 302-2638 Carriers and 140-7121 Output Shafts) for a Parts Return Request (PRR). 140-7091 Carrier, 302-2638 Carrier and 140-7121 Output Shaft Inspection Procedure If the carriers or output shafts have balance drill holes they are not suspect and can be used as normal. If no balance drill holes are found, the part is to be replaced with the same part numbered components.
