Assemble Propel Pump

1. Install guide (45) in spring (46). Install spring (46) in piston (47). Install the washer and screw that hold the component parts in position.

2. Using tool (A), install both bearing cups (44) in the swash plate.

3. Install servo piston (42) on the link and install pin (41).

NOTICE

Put a spacer between the swash plate ears and the link to prevent distortion of the ears while the pin is pressed in. Pin (43) must be pressed, if it is driven, the hole in the swash plate may become distorted.

4. Install the link and servo piston on the swash plate. Align the hole in the link with the hole in the swash plate ear. Install pin (43) with a press.

5. Install the retaining rings on pin (43) with tool (B).

6. Install the follow-up link on the swash plate with the pin and retaining ring on each end of the pin.

7. Install swash plate (39) in the case. Make sure the follow-up link is through the opening so it can make connection with the servo control valve linkage.

8. Install thrust washer (38) on the swash plate with the chamfer edge facing down.

9. Install bearing cone (36) on each of the trunnions.

10. Put a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the trunnion O-ring seals. Install the O-ring seal only on the right trunnion.

11. Install both trunnions in the pump case. The left trunnion must be installed without the O-ring seal and lock washers.

NOTE: Make sure the like for the follow-up link stays in the opening for the servo control valve linkage.

12. Tighten the bolts that hold the right trunnion to a torque of 55 ± 7 N·m (40 ± 5 lb ft). Tighten the bolts that hold the left trunnion to a torque of 11.3 N·m (100 lb in).

13. Using a feeler gauge, check the clearance between the left trunnion and the case. Take this measurement near each bolt and record the number. Average the measurement between the three bolts.

14. Remove the left trunnion. Install the O-ring seal on the trunnion.

15. Install the appropriate number of gaskets, (shims), (35) to equal the average measurement plus 0.36 mm (0.14 in).

16. Install the left trunnion, the lockwashers and the bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 ± 7 N·m (40 ± 5 lb ft).

17. Install the seals on the servo cylinders.

18. Using tool (C), install the servo cylinders to the identifications marks and the number of turn recorded at disassembly. Install the retainer that holds each servo cylinder in position.

19. Install bearing cup (26).

20. Install bearing (23), O-ring (24) and seal (25) on the shaft. Put a light coat of petroleum jelly on the O-ring before the seal is installed.

21. Install dowel (30), six springs (31) and O-ring (32) in retainer (33).

22. Put a light coat of petroleum jelly on O-ring (29) and install O-ring (29) on seal (28). Install the O-ring and seal in retainer (33).

23. Install the retainer and seal assembly in the cover.

24. Install retaining ring (27) with tooling (E).

25. Install shaft (22) in cover (21). Install the shaft and cover on the pump case and install the bolts in the cover. Install valve control (19) on the pump case.

NOTE: Using "Piston Pumps and Motors", form number SEBF8032 as a guide for re-usable parts, inspect the pump shaft, cylinder block, the pistons, servo sleeves and the servo pistons. Replace parts as required.

NOTE: Clean and lightly coat all parts with clean hydraulic oil.

26. Install spacer (18), spring (17) and spacer (16) in the pump cylinder barrel.

27. Using tooling (D) and a press, compress spring (17) in the cylinder barrel. Install retaining ring (15) with tool (F).

28. Install dowels (14).

29. Install guide (13). Install pistons (12) in retainer (11) and slide the pistons into the bores of the cylinder barrel.

30. Slide cylinder barrel (10) onto the pump shaft. Heat the bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 135° C (275° F). Install the bearing cone onto the shaft.

31. Install dowels (9), bearing plate (8) and valve plate (7).

32. Install end cover (6). Install bolts (5), slowly and evenly tightening the bolts to compress the spring inside the housing. Once the spring has been compressed and the cover is evenly seated, tighten the bolts to 74 N·m (53 lb ft).

33. Lubricate check valve O-rings (3). Push the check valves into the cover until they are flush with the surface of the end cover.

34. Align the charge pump shaft with the slot in the pump drive shaft. Install charge pump (2) on the end cover making sure the charge pump is properly aligned with the dowel pins.

35. Install four bolts (1) and torque to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).
