CP/CS-323 VIBRATORY COMPACTORS VEHICLE SYSTEMS Caterpillar

1. Remove four bolts (1) and floor plate (2).

2. Remove the bolts and seat (3).

3. Remove four bolts (5) and battery cover (4).

4. Remove four bolts (6) and floor plate (10).

5. Remove two bolts (8) and battery bracket (7).

6. Disconnect battery terminals (9). Use two people or a lifting device and remove the battery. The weight of the battery is 46 kg (100 lb).

7. Remove four bolts (11) and battery mounting plate (12).

8. Disconnect and cap three hose assemblies (13).

9. Remove four bolts (14). Slide the vibratory pump up and out. Using two people or a proper lifting device, remove the vibratory pump. The weight of the pump is 32 kg (70 lb).

NOTE: The following steps are to install the steering/vibratory pump.

10. Using two people or a proper lifting device, install the vibratory pump into the machine. The weight of the pump is 32 kg (70 lb). Install four bolts (14).

11. Connect three hose assemblies (13).

12. Install battery mounting plate (12) with four bolts (11).

13. Using two people or a suitable lifting device, install the battery. The weight of the battery is 46 kg (100 lbs).

14. Install battery bracket (7) with two bolts (8).

15. Install floor plate (10) with four bolts (6).

16. Install battery cover (4) with four bolts (5).

17. Install seat (3) with the bolts.

18. Install floor plate (2) with four bolts (1).

Disassemble & Assemble Steering/Vibratory Pump

Start By:

a. remove steering/vibratory pump

1. Remove four nuts (1) and end port cover (2).

NOTE: While disassembling the steering pump, take care to avoid loosing pocket seals (3). The seals should be removed with the gears. There are a total of twenty-four seals (3) in this pump.

2. Remove thrust plate (4), gears (5) with seals (3) and gear housing (6).

3. Remove bearing carrier (7).

4. Remove thrust plate (8), gears (9) with seals (3) and gear housing (10).

5. Remove four studs (11) from end shaft cover (12).

6. Drive out double lip seal (13). Replace with a new seal at assembly.

7. Remove roller bearing (14). Replace with a new bearing at assembly.

8. Inspect all parts for wear or damage. Replace as required.

NOTE: The following steps are to assemble the steering/vibratory pump.

9. Install a new roller bearing (14).

10. Install a new lip-type seal (13).

11. Install four studs (11) in end shaft cover (12).

NOTE: While assembling the steering pump, take care to insure that pocket seals (3) are properly positioned in the gears and that none of the seals are lost. There are a total of twenty-four seals (3) in this pump.

12. Install gear housing (10).

13. Install gears (9) with seals (3) and thrust plate (8).

14. Install bearing carrier (7).

15. Install gear housing (6).

16. Install gears (5) with seals (3). Install thrust plate (4).

17. Install end port cover (2) and four nuts (1).
