Usage:
At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped, and the fill cap on the recovery tank and the radiator are cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the fill cap on the recovery tank and the radiator.
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. The capacity of the cooling system is 17 liters (4.4 U.S. gal).
3. Remove the access cover on the operators platform.
4. Remove the recovery tank. See "Remove & Install Recovery Tank, Hydraulic Oil Cooler & Radiator" in this module.
5. Remove ten bolts (1) and two fan guards (2).
6. Remove the bolt, washer and locknut (4) from the radiator support bracket.
7. Disconnect upper radiator hose (3) from the radiator.
8. Remove the bolt, washer and locknut (6) that hold the clip for the fuel lines in place. Move the lines away from the fan drive.
9. Loosen bolt (5) that holds the alternator to the adjusting strap. Move the alternator toward the engine to release the tension on the vee-belts.
10. Remove four bolts (7), the washers and locknuts that hold step (8) in place. Remove the step.
11. Loosen the two locknuts that hold the radiator and hydraulic oil cooler to the front engine mount. Tilt the radiator and hydraulic oil cooler forward. Remove the six bolts that hold the fan assembly in place. Remove the fan assembly.
12. With the tension released, remove the vee-belts from the fan pulley.
13. Remove four bolts (9) and fan drive (10) from the front of the engine.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the fan drive and fan assembly.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not reuse elastic filled locknuts during installation of the fan drive and fan assembly. The used locknuts should be discarded and replaced with new parts. |
14. Check the condition of the vee-belts. If necessary, replace the vee-belts.
15. Put fan drive (10) in position on the front of the engine, and install four bolts (9) that hold it. Put the vee-belts in position on the fan and alternator pulleys.
16. Install the fan assembly and the six bolts that hold it.
17. Tilt the radiator and hydraulic oil cooler to a vertical position. Tighten the two locknuts that hold the unit to the front engine mount.
18. Reinstall step (8).
19. Put the fuel lines in position at the front of the engine, and install the clip, bolt, washer and locknut (6) that hold them.
20. Connect the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
21. Reinstall the bolt, washer and locknut (4) that hold the radiator support bracket.
22. Reinstall two fan guards (2) and ten bolts (1) that hold them.
23. Reinstall the recovery tank. See "Remove & Install Recovery Tank, Hydraulic Oil Cooler & Radiator" in this module.
24. Adjust the tension of the vee-belts. See "Fan And Alternator Belts" in the Operation & Maintenance Manual. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
25. Reinstall the access cover on the operators platform.
Disassemble & Assemble Fan Drive
Start By:
a. remove fan assembly and fan drive
1. Remove the grease cap from the end of the hub by prying it off with a screwdriver.
2. Remove six bolts (5) and fan pulley (4) from hub (3). Remove bolt (1) and washer (2). Remove hub (3) from the bracket assembly.
3. Remove spacer (6) from the bracket assembly.
4. Remove bearing cone (9), spacer (8) and bearing cup (7) from the hub.
5. Remove seal (11) from the opposite side of the hub. Remove bearing cone (10) and the bearing cup from the hub.
NOTE: The following steps are for the assembly of the fan drive.
6. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup, and install it and bearing cone (10) in the hub. Install seal (11) in the hub with tool (A). Instal the seal with the lip toward the inside of the hub. Put a thin coat of 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant on the lip of the seal.
7. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (7); then install it in the hub. Install spacer (8) in the hub.
8. Fill the cavity between the the bearings with 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant, and install bearing cone (9).
9. Install spacer (6) on the bracket assembly. The spacer can be installed either way on the bracket assembly.
10. Install hub (3) on the bracket assembly. Install washer (2) and bolt (1) to hold the hub. Install fan pulley (4) and six bolts (5).
11. Fill the grease cap with 2S3230 Bearing Lubricant, and install it on the end of the hub with a soft faced hammer.
End By:
a. install fan assembly and fan drive
