Hydraulic cylinder (1) is a double acting cylinder that is equipped with a speed control valve. Speed control valve (2) is used to increase the speed of the jaws when the jaws are closing. The valve is mounted directly to the cylinder. Refer to System Operations, "Speed Control Valve" for further information.
When oil is supplied to head end (4) of the cylinder, the rod is forced out of the cylinder housing. This action closes the jaws of the work tool. When oil is supplied to rod end (3) of the cylinder, the rod retracts into the cylinder housing. This action causes the jaws of the work tool to open.
The maximum working pressure of the cylinder is 35000 kPa (5076 psi). The maximum pressure for the return oil is 5000 kPa (725 psi). When possible, the cylinder should operate at the specified pressures for optimum performance. If the host machine can not produce a sufficient amount of pressure, the performance of the work tool will be diminished.
