Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Install two lip type seals (32) and O-ring seal (33) on cage (28) .

    Note: Lubricate the seals and the seal surface of the shaft before you install the cage assembly.

  1. Carefully install cage (28) on shaft (26) .

  1. Raise the temperature of bearing (31) 135 °C (275 °F) and install the bearing on shaft (26) .

  1. Install spacer (30) on shaft assembly (26). Install the spacer with relief against bearing (31) .

  1. Raise the temperature of bearing (29). Install the bearing on shaft (26) and against spacer (30) .

  1. Install retaining ring (25) on shaft (26) and against bearing (29) .

  1. Install shaft assembly (26) in swing drive housing (4), as follows.

    1. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the inside diameter of swing drive housing (4) .

    1. Lower the temperature of shaft assembly (26) .

    1. Attach Tooling (F) and a suitable lifting device to the shaft assembly.

    1. Install the shaft assembly into swing drive housing (4). Bearing (31) must be within the bore of the swing drive housing.

    1. Remove Tooling (F) and the lifting device from the shaft assembly. Attach the tooling and the lifting device to the swing drive housing.

    1. Lift the swing drive vertically. Use a hammer and a drift to align bearing (29) in the lower bore of the swing drive housing. When the bearing is properly aligned in the bore, shaft assembly (26) will drop into the proper position within the swing drive housing.

  1. Apply 1U-8846 Sealant on the threads of bolts (27) .

  1. Install bolts (27) and washers in cage (28) and swing drive (4) .

  1. Use a deburring tool in order to remove the metal burr from the openings in carrier (19) .

  1. Install bearings (23) in gear (24) .

  1. Install gear assembly (24) and washers (22) in carrier (19) .

  1. Lower the temperature of shaft (21). Install the shaft in carrier assembly (19) .

  1. Install pin (20) in the carrier assembly and the shaft.

  1. Use a hammer and a center punch to stake the pin in the carrier housing.

  1. Repeat Steps 11 through Steps 15 on the three remaining planetary gear assemblies.

  1. Use a lifting strap and a suitable lifting device to install planetary carrier assembly (19) on swing drive (4) .

  1. Clean the mounting surface of swing drive (4). Apply 1U-8846 Sealant to the mounting surface and around each of the bolt holes.

  1. Install spacer (18) in planetary carrier assembly (19) .

  1. Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to ring gear (9) .

  1. Use bolts (5) to align the ring gear to swing drive (4). Install the ring gear on the swing drive.

  1. Install retaining ring (17) on gear (16) .

  1. Install gear assembly (16) and retaining ring (15) in carrier (6) .

  1. Install bearing (12) in gear (13) .

  1. Install gear assembly (13), washers (11), and shaft (14) in carrier (6) .

  1. Install pin (10) in carrier (6) .

  1. Use a hammer and a center punch in order to stake the carrier after installing pin (10) in the carrier.

  1. Repeat Steps 24 through 27 for the remaining two planetary gear assemblies.

  1. Attach a lifting strap and a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier (6). Carefully install the planetary carrier in the ring gear and the swing drive.

  1. Install spacer (8) on planetary carrier (6) .

  1. Install sun gear (7) in planetary carrier (6) .

  1. Clean the mounting surface of ring gear (9). Apply 1U-8846 Sealant to the mounting surface and around each of the bolt holes.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cover (2) .

  1. Use three bolts (5) for alignment.

  1. Install the cover on ring gear (9) and swing drive (4) .

  1. Apply 1U-8846 Sealant to the threads of bolts (5) .

  1. Install bolts (5) and the washers in the cover and swing drive (4). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft).

  1. Install plugs (1) in cover (2). If the drain valve has been removed, reinstall the drain valve. Tighten the drain valve to a torque of 50 ± 7 N·m (37 ± 6 lb ft).

End By: Install the swing drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Drive - Install " in this manual.
