Fuel Inj. Pump Housing & Governor

Usage:

Remove Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor As A Unit

preparatory step:

a) remove fuel injection lines

1. Drain the fuel filter housing.

2. Remove fuel injection pump housing fuel inlet line (2). Remove the pump housing oil drain tube (4).

3. On Industrial engines only, remove the safety shutoff control oil lines (1) and (3).

4. Remove governor rear mounting bracket (7). Remove the fuel injection pump housing mounting bolts (6), and remove the three brackets (5). On Industrial engines, two of the mounting bolts cannot be removed until the safety shutoff control is removed.

NOTE: Observe the location of the two ground body mounting bolts. Install these bolts back in their original location when installing the fuel injection pump housing.

5. On Marine engines only, remove the left exhaust manifold water inlet line. Remove turbocharger heat shield water return line from water temperature regulator housing.

6. On Industrial engines only, remove the left aftercooler water outlet line (9).

7. Remove the turbocharger lubrication line (10). Remove oil manifold mounting bolts (11). Remove variable timing unit cover (8).

8. Remove drive gear, retainer, mounting bolts, and locks.

9. Attach a hoist and move the assembly forward to clear O-ring seals at rear of housing. Remove the fuel injection pump housing and governor as a unit-weight 300 lbs. (136 kg).

Install Fuel Injection Pump Housing And Governor As A Unit

1. Attach a hoist and position the fuel injection pump housing assembly on engine. Move the assembly toward the rear of engine to seat the O-ring seals in the cylinder block.

2. Install the fuel injection pump housing mounting bolts, and the three mounting brackets. Make sure the ground body bolts are installed in their original locations. Install the governor rear mounting bracket.

3. Install the fuel injection pump housing oil drain tube. Install the pump housing fuel inlet line.

4. On Industrial engines only, install the safety shutoff control oil lines.

5. Install the variable timing unit drive gear, retainer, mounting bolts, and lock. Do not tighten the mounting bolts.

6. Time the fuel injection pump camshaft to engine. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP CAMSHAFT TIMING in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.

7. Install the variable timing unit cover. Install the oil manifold mounting bolts, and install the turbocharger lubrication line.

8. On Industrial engines only, install the left aftercooler water outlet line.

9. On Marine engines only, install the left exhaust manifold water inlet line (1). Install turbocharger heat shield water return line to water temperature regulator housing.

concluding step:
