Front Timing Gear Cover

Usage:

Remove Front Timing Gear Cover

preparatory steps:

a) remove vibration damper and hub

b) remove oil filter housing

1. Remove prelube pump oil outlet line from pump.

2. Remove support assembly (3).

3. Remove fuel drain line (2). Disconnect the oil pressure gauge sensing line (1) from timing gear cover. Remove water pump inlet line hold down clamp (4).

4. Remove the ten timing gear plate-to-cover bolts (5).

5. Remove the oil pan-to-timing gear cover bolts. Loosen remaining oil pan bolts. Raise the front of engine and install spacers (6) between oil pan and cylinder block on both sides of engine. Lower the engine.

6. Remove all timing gear cover mounting bolts and nuts.

7. Install 3/8"-16NC threaded eyebolt, attach hoist and remove the front timing gear cover-weight 95 lbs. (43 kg).

Install Front Timing Gear Cover

1. Install a new timing gear cover-to-timing gear plate gasket. Trim the gasket flush with pan face of cylinder block.

NOTE: If oil pan gasket was damaged during removal of front timing gear cover, it will be necessary to remove the oil pan base in order to replace entire oil pan gasket.

2. Lubricate the lip of crankshaft front oil seal with clean SAE 30 engine oil.

3. Attach hoist to front timing cover and position cover on engine. Install the timing gear cover-to-cylinder block bolts and nuts. Install the timing gear plate-to-cover bolts.

4. Raise the front of engine, and remove the spacers (1) between oil pan and cylinder block. Lower the engine.

5. Install the oil pan-to-timing gear cover bolts. Tighten remaining oil pan bolts. Install the water pump inlet line hold-down clamp.

6. Connect the oil pressure gauge sensing line to front timing gear cover. Install the fuel drain line.

7. Install the support assembly (2). Install the prelube pump oil outlet line to the prelube pump.

concluding steps:

a) install vibration damper and hub

b) install oil filter housing
