3512C Engine for Caterpillar Built Machines Caterpillar

Air Compressor - Remove and Install

Usage:

3512C B7F

Removal Procedure

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Purge the air from the air system.

  3. Disconnect tube assembly (1) from regulator valve (2). Remove regulator valve (2) and the gasket, if necessary.

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (5) from governor assembly (3). Remove governor assembly (3) and the gasket, if necessary.

  5. Disconnect tube assembly (4), tube assembly (9), and hose assembly (7).

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to air compressor (8). The weight of air compressor (8) is approximately 23 kg (51 lb). Remove bolts (6), air compressor (8), and the gasket.
