Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
Note: The following procedure describes the steps which are used to check and adjust the conveyor drive chain on the right side of the machine. The procedure for checking and adjusting the conveyor drive chain on the opposite side of the tractor is similar.
- Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
- Move propel lever (3) to the NEUTRAL position.

- Rotate speed dial (2) to the MINIMUM position.
- Move parking brake switch (1) to the ON position.
- Move screed lift switch (4) to the FLOAT position. Allow the screed to lower to the ground.
Note: The screed lift switch on the inactive operator station must also be in the FLOAT position in order to lower the screed.
Illustration 2 | g01511404 |
- Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW IDLE position. Hold the switch in this position for less than 1 second.
Illustration 3 | g01513365 |
- Move engine start switch (6) to the OFF position.
- Open access door (7) on the right side of the machine.
Illustration 4 | g01513289 |
- Measure the deflection along the rear edge of chain (8) at the midpoint of the chain. Record the reading. Measure the deflection along the front edge of the chain at the midpoint of the chain. Add the two measurements.
Deflection of chain (8) should be less than 6.4 mm (0.25 in).
Illustration 5 | g01513367 |
- If deflection of chain (8) is outside the specified range, adjust the chain tension with the following procedure.
- Loosen, but do not remove, three bolts (9) .
Illustration 6 | g01513369 |
- Loosen lock nut (12) .
Illustration 7 | g01513370 |
- Hold bolt (10), and turn adjustment nut (11) until deflection of chain (8) is within the specified range.
- Tighten lock nut (12) .
- Tighten mounting bolts (9) .
- Close right access door (7) on the right side of the machine.
