Auxiliary control manifold (10) is located under the operator platform in the center of the machine. The ports on the manifold are labelled for identification.
Note: Not all functions of the manifold will be discussed in this section. Functions that are not directly related to the auxiliary systems are discussed in the appropriate sections of this document.
Auxiliary control manifold (10) contains seven solenoids. Four solenoids are located in the left side, and three solenoids are located in the right side. The following solenoids are located on the left side of the manifold:
- Screed float solenoid (1)
- Screed lift solenoid (2)
- Auger lift solenoid (3)
- Shift solenoid (6)
The following solenoids are located in the ride side of the manifold:
- Parking brake solenoid (4)
- Screed assist solenoid (8)
- Auger lower solenoid (9)
The screed lift switch on the active instrument panel controls screed lift solenoid (2). When the active screed lift switch is in the LIFT position, the screed lift solenoid is energized.
Screed assist solenoid (8) and screed float solenoid (1) are controlled by the following switches: the screed lift switch on the left instrument panel, the screed lift switch on the right instrument panel, and the screed counterbalance switch on the left instrument panel. The screed float solenoid is energized under these conditions: both of the screed lift switches are in the FLOAT position, and the screed counterbalance switch is in the OFF position. In this situation, gravity causes the screed to lower to the ground.
Screed assist solenoid (8) is energized under these conditions: both of the screed lift switches are in the LOWER position, and the screed counterbalance switch is in the ON position. In this case pressure regulating valve (7) limits the downward force that the screed exerts on the asphalt mat.
The auger lift switch on the active instrument panel controls auger lift solenoid (3) and controls auger lower solenoid (9). When the active auger lift switch is in the LIFT position, the auger lift solenoid is energized. When the active auger lift switch is in the LOWER position, the auger lower solenoid is energized.
The auxiliary manifold also contains pressure reducing valve (5). This valve is installed upstream from shift solenoid (4). The pressure reducing valve limits the pressure which is available to the shift solenoid to 4800 ± 350 kPa (700 ± 50 psi).
The auxiliary manifold contains a pilot opened check valve in each of the following locations:
- The line to the rod end of the right auger hoist cylinder
- The line to the head end of the left auger hoist cylinder
- The line to the rod ends of the screed hoist cylinders
The check valves that are in line with the auger cylinders make sure that the auger cannot be lifted or the auger cannot be lowered unless the appropriate solenoids are energized. The check valve that is in line with the screed hoist cylinders make sure that the screed cannot be lowered unless the appropriate solenoid is energized. The pilot opened check valves require that pressurized oil be sent to one side of the cylinder before the return side of the cylinder is open to the tank.
Pressure regulating valve (7) is equipped with a locknut and an adjustment spool. The locknut and the adjustment spool can be adjusted without tools. When the adjustment spool is rotated clockwise, the pressure in the rod ends of the screed hoist cylinders increases. This increased pressure decreases the downward force of the screed. Counterclockwise rotation of the adjustment spool decreases the pressure in the screed hoist cylinders.
When the screed assist solenoid is energized, pressure regulating valve (7) can be used to change the pressure in the rod ends of the screed hoist cylinders.
Note: Both screed lift switches must be in the FLOAT position and the screed assist switch must be in the ON position before the screed assist system will operate.
The shift pressure can be measured at pressure tap (11) in port "G1" of the auxiliary manifold.
Pressure gauge (12) measures the screed counterbalance pressure. When the adjustment spool is turned fully in the counterclockwise direction, the screed counterbalance pressure should be 173 kPa (25 psi). In order to determine the optimum setting, the pressure should be adjusted in 69 kPa (10 psi) increments. The maximum allowable screed counterbalance pressure is 520 kPa (75 psi). If the pressure is adjusted above the recommended maximum setting, the screed will not float.

Front of Engine Compartment (13) Auxiliary pressure manifold |
The auxiliary pump sends oil to auxiliary pressure manifold (13). This manifold is located inside the engine compartment on the right side of the machine. The right hopper door provides access to this component.
The ports on auxiliary pressure manifold (13) are marked for identification. Pump supply oil enters the manifold through port "A". Port "F" of this manifold distributes oil to the truck hitch manifold and the tow point manifold. Port "D" of this manifold distributes oil to the ventilation motor.
