NOTE: | This Containment Program can be administered either before or after a failure occurs. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer and service rep. Obtain the service reps Goodwill Approver Code before completing the repair. EAME dealers should use their standard Industry Group specific goodwill approval codes. The Goodwill Approver Code must be included when submitting the claim. |
NOTE: | When reporting the repair, use "PS90938" as the Part Number and "7777" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as Warranty Claim Description and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. |

PROBLEM
The final drive 2659125/">265-9125 Planet Pin Retainers need to be replaced on certain 120M and 140M Motor Graders. The existing retainers on identified machines may have non-conformance related to flatness and hardness and may fail if not replaced. Individual retainers procured from part stock depots are not impacted by this quality issue. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Read and understand the Operation and Maintenance Manual for safety information and safe working practices before starting this Rework Procedure. All six 2659125/">265-9125 Planet Pin Retainers from the left and right hand side final drives have to be replaced. To reduce the rework time, following rework steps/sequence of operations are recommended on the various 120M and 140M Motor Graders. Refer to SIS D&A guidelines for details. Remove rims/tires. Remove skid plates. Remove ripper tag links. Remove drive shaft. Drain axle oil. Disconnect all hoses and diff lock wiring harness. Disconnect brake lines. Remove LPT/TRANSMISSION fill tube. Remove entire lower powertrain from machine. Remove nuts on studs holding final drives to center housing. Use a portable hydraulic pump and cylinder to separate final drive from center housing (split at inboard side of ring gear). Apply force between tandem square bolt heads and stud ends. Remove final drive carrier assembly retaining snap ring. Remove final drive carrier assembly. Replace suspect retainers. Remove all studs from center housing. Clean mating surfaces thoroughly before installing new studs. Reassemble with new anaerobic sealant (See D&A). Reinstall axle to machine reassemble drive shaft, hoses, tag links, etc., refill oil. |

Total of 30 labor hours allowed to perform the rework on both final drives. Rework steps/sequence of operations suggested in this letter will reduce total rework time. Tandems do not need to be drained per the provided instructions. An additional $200 claim allowed for bulk fluids that may need to be drained during this rework. When applicable, travel time and mileage will be allowed (up to $1,000). |
