PROBLEM
The 398-7881 Steering Accumulator Clamps located in dealer parts stock need to be inspected and potentially reworked. These existing steering accumulator clamps in parts stock can fail at low hours, which could lead to the steering accumulator becoming unsecured. The 398-7881 Steering Accumulator Clamps are for use on 789D, 789D XQ, 793D, 793F, 793F AC, 793F CMD, 793F XQ, and 795F AC Off-Highway Trucks. |
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all 398-7881 Clamps in dealer parts stock for the following 4 welds as outlined in Image1 below. If the clamp inspected is found to have the four welds as outlined by Image1 perform the following rework procedure. (If the clamp inspected is found to already be welded like the rework instructions show, then the clamp should be returned to stock.) 1. Disassemble the top half of the clamp from the bottom half of the clamp by removing two bolts. Remove rubber cushions from bottom half of clamp. Save the bolts, cushions, and top half of the clamp for reuse. Note: Refer to Image2. 2. Remove the galvanized finish on the clamp in the 8 affected areas using a wire brush or wheel. Note: Refer to Image3, Image4, Image5 and Image6 for locations and additional details. Note: Do not remove existing welds from clamp. 3. Weld the clamp in the 8 areas according to the welding symbols as outlined by Image7 and Image8 below. Note: Completed welds should be similar to Image9 and Image10. 4. Reassemble clamp assembly by using cushions, bolts, and clamp top half that were previously disassembled. After rework clamp can be returned to stock. Note: Once clamp is placed in service on a machine it should continue to be inspected in 1000 hour intervals. |
