ACTION REQUIRED
Remove all 6G-1670 Chain Groups that have the following date codes on the master link: 9/14, 10/14, 11/14, or 12/14. Please see the attached image for date code location. |

The Before Fix will consist of inspecting the tandem chain group and determine if the chain is within the suspect date code. The suspect date codes are 9/14, 10/14, 11/14, and 12/14. If the chain is outside of these date codes, no further action is required. If a chain is found within the suspect date code range, replace the chain per RENR8639. If there is a chain failure, replace the chain and other necessary components per RENR8639. To inspect the tandem chain group for date codes, follow the instructions below. 1. Block the front wheels, install the articulation lock pin, and put the rear of the machine on stands or otherwise lift the rear tires off the ground so that the wheels can be rotated by hand (be sure to block the tandem front and rear) 2. Put the machine in neutral, disengage the differential lock, and disengage the park brake (parking brake can only be released with machine running or if an external hydraulic pressure source is utilized to disengage the parking brake). If machine is equipped with fenders, the fenders and tires must be removed in order to inspect chains. 3. Remove a bolt from each of the tandem side plate chain access covers, loosen the other, and rotate the plates out of the way 4. Rotate wheels until masterlink is visible 5. Rotate wheels 1 link ahead of or behind of masterlink and look for date code as shown below 6. Replace any chains with a 9/14, 10/14, 11/14 or 12/14 date code Note: When re-installing the tandem cover plates, apply Loctite 271 Red or equivalent to bolt threads in order to prevent oil seepage through the threads. |
