Usage:

Remove Right Cylinder Head Assembly

preparatory steps:

a) remove right camshaft housing

b) remove left turbocharger

c) remove oil filter housing

1. Drain the cooling system. Drain the fuel filter housing.

2. Disconnect governor linkage from governor. Disconnect the safety shutoff control cable from lever. Remove the cable bracket and clip mounting bolts from the channel assembly. Remove the governor control channel assembly.

3. Remove the four exhaust elbow bracket mounting bolts (1) from the right cylinder head. Loosen the four bracket mounting bolts (2) in left cylinder head. Remove the right aftercooler water outlet elbow (3).

4. Remove the governor-to-right aftercooler housing mounting bracket (4). Remove the fuel ratio control sensing line (5). Remove the safety shutoff control mounting brakcet (6). Remove the two fuel injection pump bracket mounting bolts (7). Remove the fuel bleed line clamp mounting bolt (8).

5. Disconnect wiring from water temperature shutoff sending unit (9). Remove the fuel transfer pump fuel outlet line clamp (10) mounting bolt from engine front lifting bracket.

6. Remove the gauge panel rear cover. Disconnect all fuel lines from the fuel filter housing. Attach a hoist to filter housing, and remove the support bracket mounting bolts. Remove the fuel filter housing - weight 130 lbs. (59 kg).

7. Remove the aftercooler vent lines. Remove the aftercooler water inlet elbows (11). Remove water bypass line-to-regulator housing mounting bolts (12). Disconnect water lines (13) and (14) from lower housing (15). Attach a hoist and remove the lower housing-to-cylinder head mounting bolts (16). Remove the water temperature regulator housing - weight 100 lbs. (45 kg).

8. Remove the cylinder head retaining nuts and washers. Attach a hoist and remove the cylinder head assembly - weight 425 lbs. (193 kg).

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove spacer plate unless spacer plate gasket has been leaking or was damaged during removal of cylinder head assembly.

Install Right Cylinder Head Assembly

1. Clean the top surface of spacer plate and mating surface of cylinder head. Install the head gasket and water seals.

2. Attach a hoist and position the cylinder head assembly on engine. Coat the threads of retaining studs with 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound. Install washers and retaining nuts. Tighten the nuts in following Step sequence:

1 Tighten all nuts in numerical sequence to 175 lb. ft. (24,2 mkg).

2 Retighten all nuts in numerical sequence to 250 lb. ft. (34,6 mkg).

3 Finally retighten all nuts by hand in numerical sequence to 250 lb. ft. (34,6 mkg).

3. Attach a hoist and position the water temperature regulator housing on engine. Install the two lower housing-to-cylinder head mounting bolts. Connect the water lines to lower housing. Connect bypass line to regulator housing. Install the aftercooler water inlet elbows. Install the aftercooler vent lines.

4. Attach a hoist and position the fuel filter housing on engine. Install support bracket mounting bolts. connect the fuel lines to fuel filter housing, and install gauge panel cover.

5. Install the fuel transfer pump fuel outlet line clamp mounting bolt. Connect wiring to water temperature shutoff sending unit.

6. Install fuel bleed line clamp mounting bolt. Install two fuel injection pump housing bracket mounting bolts. Install safety shutoff control mounting bracket. Install fuel ratio control sensing line. Install governor-to-right aftercooler housing mounting bracket.

7. Install the right aftercooler water outlet elbow. Install and tighten the exhaust elbow bracket mounting bolts.

8. Install the governor control channel assembly. Install bracket and clip mounting bolts. Connect cable to lever. Connect governor linkage.

9. Fill the cooling system.
