Jacket Water Pump

Usage:

Remove Jacket Water Pump

1. Drain the cooling system.

2. Remove water pump inlet pipe (2).

3. Remove bolts (1) that hold the elbow to the water pump.

4. Remove the bolts and nuts (3) that hold the water pump to the timing gear plate.

5. Remove the water pump. Weight is 60 lb. (27 kg).

Install Jacket Water Pump

1. Put the water pump in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts and nuts that hold it in place.

2. Install the bolts that hold elbow (1) to the water pump.

3. Install the water pump inlet pipe.

4. Fill the cooling system.

Disassemble Jacket Water Pump

start by:

a) remove jacket water pump

1. Remove drive gear (1).

2. Remove nuts (2) and adapter (3).

3. Remove thrust washer (4) from the adapter.

4. Use tooling (A) to remove bearing (5) from the adapter.

5. Remove the cotter pin, nut (6) and the washer from the pump shaft.

6. Remove the bolts and locks that hold retainer (7) to pump housing (9). Push pump shaft (8) out of the impeller and pump housing.

7. Remove the ceramic ring seal, lip type seal and O-ring seal from the pump housing.

8. Bend the lock back and use tool (B) to remove spanner nut (10) from the pump shaft. Use a press to push the pump shaft out of bearing (11). Remove the O-ring seal from the pump shaft.

Assemble Jacket Water Pump

1. Use a press to push bearing (1) on to the pump shaft.

2. Install the lock and spanner nut (2) on the pump shaft. Install the spanner nut with the chamfer toward the lock. Use tool (B) to tighten the spanner nut to a torque of 65 ± 10 lb.ft. (90 ± 14 N·m). Bend the lock to hold the spanner nut tight.

3. Install O-ring seal (3) on the pump shaft.

4. Use tooling (A) to install the seal in housing (7) with the lip of the seal toward the bearing on shaft (6) as shown.

5. Install shaft (6) and the bearing in housing (7). Install retainer (5), lock (4) and the bolts to hold the bearing in the housing. Bend the lock.

6. Put water on the rubber cup, ceramic ring seal, and bore of housing (7). Use the installation tool given with the new seal to install the rubber cup and ceramic ring seal in housing (7). Use hand pressure only and install the ceramic ring seal with the highly finished (polished) side toward the impeller.

7. Put water on the inside diameter of the bellows on carbon seal assembly (11) and the shaft of the pump. Use the installation tool and hand pressure only to push the carbon seal assembly on the shaft until the carbon surface makes contact with the ceramic ring. Install spring (10) on the shaft.

8. Install impeller (8) on the shaft and install the washer and nut (9). Tighten nut (9) to a torque of 30 ± 5 lb.ft. (40 ± 7 N·m). Install the cotter pin.

9. Install O-ring seals (12) on the pump housing. Install the pump housing in impeller housing (13).

10. Use tooling (A) to install bearing (14) in the adapter so the bearing is .062 in. (1.57 mm) below the surface of the adapter.

11. Install thrust washer (15) on the adapter.

12. Put adapter (16) in position on the pump and install the washers and nuts that hold it in place.

13. Install water pump drive gear (17) as shown.

end by:

a) install jacket water pump
