Usage:
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Typical example
1. Using Tool (A), remove fuel filter (6).
2. Disconnect hose assembly (2) from the breather assembly (1)
3. Disconnect two tube assemblies (3) and (4) from the fuel filter base. Cap and plug all connections.
4. Remove the four bolts (5) and the washers that hold the fuel filter base to the engine. Remove the fuel filter base and gasket from the engine.
5. Remove breather assembly (1) and the O-ring seal from the fuel filter base. Remove the O-ring seal from the breather assembly (1).
5. If necessary, remove the fuel pressure relief valve (4).
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the fuel filter base and fuel filter.
6. Check the condition of the gasket for the fuel filter base, the O-ring seal for breather assembly (1) and the O-ring seals used in the tube assemblies that connect to the fuel filter base. If the gasket and seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.
7. Put the gasket and fuel filter base in position on the engine. Install the four bolts (5) and the washers that hold it.
8. Connect the two tube assemblies (3) and (4) to the fuel filter base.
9. Install the O-ring seal and breather assembly (1) on the fuel filter base. Tighten the bolt that holds the breather assembly to a torque of 7 ± 2 N·m (5.0 ± 1.5 lb ft).
10. Connect the hose assembly (2) to the breather assembly (1).
11. Install the fuel filter (6). For information regarding the filter installation and service intervals, refer to the Operation & Maintenance module.
