Usage:
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Use tool (A), remove engine Oil Filter (1).
2. Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the engine oil filter base..
3. Remove 15 bolts (3) and the washers that hold the engine filter base (4) to the cylinder block. Remove the oil filter and the gasket (4).
Typical Example
4. Remove plug (5), valve spring (6) and bypass valve (7) from the oil filter base. Remove the O-ring seal from plug (5).
5. Remove plug (8), valve spring (9) and bypass valve (10) from the oil cooler base.
6. Remove oil cooler (11) and the gasket from the cylinder block. Remove the two O-ring seals from the cylinder block.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil cooler, the oil filter base and the engine oil filter.
7. Check the condition of all O-ring seals and gaskets used in the installation of the engine oil cooler. If any of the parts are damaged, use new parts for replacement.
8. Put two O-ring seals in position in the cylinder block. Put the gasket and engine oil cooler (11) in position in the cylinder block.
9. Install the O-ring seal on plug (8).
10. Apply clean engine oil on the components of the oil cooler bypass valve. Install bypass valve (10), valve spring (9) and plug (8) in the oil cooler base.
11. Install the O-ring seal on plug (5).
12. Apply clean engine oil on the components of the oil filter bypass valve. Install bypass valve (7), valve spring (6) and plug (5) in the oil filter base.
13. Put the gasket and oil filter base (4) in position over the engine oil cooler. Install 15 bolts (3) and the washers that hold the engine oil filter base (4) to the cylinder block. Tighten the 15 bolts to a torque of 25 ± 7 N·m (18 ± 5 lb ft).
14. Connect tube assembly (2) to the engine oil filter base.
15. Install a new engine oil filter (1). See the operation & Maintenance Module for details regarding filter installation and service intervals.
16. Start the engine, and bring it up to operating temperature. Shut off the engine and allow it to cool.
