Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Remove guard (1) below the oil cooler and radiator.
NOTE: The transmission oil cooler will have very little oil in it if the engine has been stopped for a period of time.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Start the removal procedure only when when the engine is stopped and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
2. Disconnect oil line (3) from the bottom of the transmission oil cooler.
3. Remove two bolts (2) and the spacers that hold the transmission oil cooler to the radiator guard.
4. Disconnect oil line (4) from the top of the oil cooler.
5. Remove eight bolts (6) and plate (5) from the side of the oil cooler.
6. Install tooling (A) as shown.
7. Remove bolts (7) and (8).
8. Remove transmission oil cooler (9). Weight is approximately 39 kg (85 lb).
NOTE: Install in reverse order.
