Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Effective July 1, 1992 regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publication SENR3334-01, SENR5664 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper procedure, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine. |
Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping refrigerant R-12 (C C12F2Dichloro Difluoro Methane) and refrigerant R-134A can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning. Inhaling Refrigerant R-12 or R-134A through any smoking material, although not toxic or flammable, can cause violent illness. Also heat must never be applied to a charged system. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual Form No. SENR3334-01 and SENR5664, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system. |
1. Purge the air conditioning system. Disconnect air conditioning lines (1) and (2). Cap or plug any open lines. This will prevent moisture from entering the system and causing damage to the air conditioning dryer.
NOTE: Some models may be equipped with quick disconnect fittings that will not make it necessary to purge the air conditioning system of refrigerant.
2. Disconnect wires (3), (4), (5), (6) and (7).
3. Remove bolt and wire clip (8).
4. Close the water valves (heater hose pet cocks) at the engine and disconnect heater hose (9) and (10).
5. Remove knob (12) and panel (11).
6. Disconnect cable end (13) from lever (14).
7. Loosen nut (15) and pull cable through hole in cab.
8. Disconnect wire connector (16).
9. Remove bolt (17) and ground strap (18).
10. Disconnect hydraulic control rods (19) and (20).
11. Remove two bolts and cover (21) on left and right side of the machine.
12. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to the cab as shown.
13. Remove front mounting bolts (22).
14. Remove rear mounting bolts (23) and remove cab. Weight of the cab is 1035 kg (2300 lb).
NOTE: Install cab in reverse order.
15. Tighten cab mounting bolts to a torque of 850 ± 100 N·m (630 ± 75 lb ft).
