(8) Shims

  1. Use three bolts (1) that are spaced 120 degrees from each other in order to assemble retainer plate (2) to pin (5). Do not use shims (8) at this time.

  1. Evenly, tighten bolts (1) to 200 ± 25 N·m (148 ± 18 lb ft). Install 12 bolts (4) and washers on cap (3). Do not tighten bolts (4) at this time.

Note: The chamfer on the inside of thrust washer (6) must face away from bearing (7). The chamfer provides clearance for the radius on the thrust face of pin (5) .

  1. Use a depth micrometer in order to measure the distance from the top of retainer plate (2) to the end of pin (5). Measure this distance through the hole in retainer plate (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (1) and retainer plate (2). Use an outside micrometer in order to measure the thickness of retainer plate (2) .

  1. Subtract the thickness of retainer plate (2) from the distance that was found in Step 3. This is the gap between pin (5) and retainer plate (2) .

  1. Add 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) to the distance that was found in Step 5. This is the shim pack thickness. Install the correct amount of shims (8) .

  1. Use six bolts (1) and washers in order to install retainer plate (2) and shims (8). Torque bolts (1) to 800 ± 100 N·m (590 ± 75 lb ft).

  1. Tighten bolts (4) with washers to 545 ± 50 N·m (400 ± 35 lb ft). Then, rotate bolts (4) by an additional 60 ± 5 degrees.

Note: Apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Lubricant to the washer face and to the threads prior to assembly.
