An exhaust system that is free of leaks is essential to the health of the surrounding components. The beam assembly, that is known as the smoke beam (A), is in an area that is susceptible to exhaust fumes. Leaks from the joints of the exhaust system within the smoke beam (A) can lead to rust and/or corrosive wear. Proper inspection of these joints and proper maintenance of these joints will prevent corrosion from occurring in the smoke beam (A) and in the surrounding components. Establish an inspection interval that is based on prior experience. The interval may vary with the site and/or the application. A practical interval for the inspection is at the engine rebuild or at the replacement of the engine.
