PROBLEM
The A/C accumulator can leak desiccant into the HVAC system and cause failure of the HVAC system, on certain 272D2/272D2 XHP Skid Steer Loaders, 297D2/297D2 XHP Multi Terrain Loaders, and 299D2/299D2 XHP Compact Track Loaders. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect all A/C accumulators that are in dealer parts stock for a Manufacturer Batch Code. Refer to Image1 in order to locate the batch code decal. |
Inspect all A/C accumulators on the machine for a Manufacturer Batch Code. Refer to Image1 in order to locate the batch code decal. The batch code on the accumulator may not be readily visible on certain machines. Follow SENR5664, Disassembly and Assembly, Air Conditioning and Heating R134a for All Caterpillar Machines, "Refrigerant Accumulator - Remove and Install", for additional information in order to remove the accumulator. - If the batch code on the A/C accumulator IS NOT 20150424 or 20150511, the accumulator is good, replacement of the O-ring seals is only necessary, then return the machine to service. - If the batch code IS 20150424 or 20150511, the A/C accumulator is suspect, proceed with attached Rework Procedure. |

Rework Procedure for the A/C accumulator, on the machine, from suspect batch code 20150424 or 20150511. 1. Replace the suspect A/C accumulator and orifice tube with a new 468-2705 Accumulator Assembly and 232-1384 Orifice Tube. Refer to SENR5664, Disassembly and Assembly, Air Conditioning and Heating R134a for All Caterpillar Machines, "Refrigerant Accumulator - Remove and Install" and "Refrigerant Orifice Tube Assembly - Remove and Install" under the Disassembly and Assembly section. |
2. Replace the existing compressor with new 345-4547 Compressor. Refer to SENR5664, Disassembly and Assembly, Air Conditioning and Heating R134a for All Caterpillar Machines, "Replacing the A/C Compressor", under "Refrigerant Oil - Test", under the Testing and Adjusting section. 3. Replenish the PAG oil as per the instructions in the above section. |
4. If there are any connections that come apart, the O-ring seals need to be replaced, after being lubricated with mineral oil or vacuum pump oil (CAT part number 397-7507). 5. Recharge the system with R134A per 418-5827 A/C tag (Refrigerant System Charge) 6. Check for leaks, use of a refrigerant type sniffer is recommended. |
