NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS5509" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
Termination Date
August 31, 1999Problem
Replacing both front and rear axles and transfer box if the bevel gear fails on certain TH62 Telehandlers. If the bevel gear fails in either the front or rear axle within the serial number range then both axles and the transfer box must be replaced.
NOTE: This service letter does not cover any failure of the transfer box. In the event of a transfer box failure, normal repair procedures should be carried out.

The dealer will not need to order parts for this rework.
Action Required
1. Record the following information: machine serial number, machine hours, identification of failed parts, front axle serial number, rear axle serial number and transfer box serial number.
2. Contact Ken Klein at Caterpillar, Inc in Clayton N.C., phone (919) 550-3038 or fax (919) 550-3039 with the above information. An RGA will be issued to return the axles and transfer box with shipping instructions. Follow these instructions exactly and ship the old axles and transfer box to the address provided freight prepaid.
3. Two new axles and transfer box will be shipped to you freight prepaid. A Dana Spicer Clark Hurth kit will be provided. The supplier part number for this kit is 279.306 TH62 Kit.
NOTE: Claim the outgoing freight as freight when filing this service letter.
NOTE: Both replacement axles and transfer box must be installed as a set to ensure all ratios match. Remove and install parts using SENR5840 Disassembly And Assembly Guide.

NOTE: This is a 10-hour job. Also, claim the freight and oil associated with this program.
