Water Pump - Remove

Usage:

D7R II ABJ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install".
  2. Remove the engine side guard on the right side of the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.

At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.

Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.

Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Remove the engine oil filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

  1. Drain the coolant from the system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  1. Remove bolts (1) from tube assembly (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (3) .

  1. Loosen hose clamps (4) and remove hose (5) from water pump (6) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) and alternator bracket (8) .

  1. Disconnect hose (11). Remove bolts (9), housing (10), and the gasket.

  1. Remove bolts (12) and (13) and remove bracket (14) .

  1. Remove bolts (15) from timing cover (16) .

  1. Remove water pump (6) and the tube assembly. Remove the flange gaskets from the water pump.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (17) from water pump (6). Remove tube assembly (2) from water pump (6) .

  1. Remove O-ring seals (18) from the tube assembly (2) .
