Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all times.

  1. Remove temperature sensor (1) from body (2) of the torque converter outlet relief valve.

  1. Remove bolts (4) and plate (3) from the body.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Possible injury can result when removing nut, retainer and hold down spring.

    Spring force will be released when nut and retainer are removed. Be prepared to hold the retainer as the nut is loosened.

  1. Remove bolts (5) , bracket (7) , and cover (6) from the body.

  1. Remove spring (10) , if necessary.

    Note: Spring (10) is not installed in all valve assemblies.

  1. Remove spring (12) , and spool (13) from the body. Remove O-ring seal (9) .

  1. Remove O-ring seal (14) . Remove plug (8) , and O-ring seal (11) . Remove the dust caps, the fitting assemblies, the bolts and the cover, if necessary.
