Engine Oil Filter Base - Disassemble

Usage:

D7R II ABJ

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil filter base. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Filter and Base - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Remove the adapter and the covers from the oil filter base. Remove the O-ring seals.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Remove O-ring seals (1) .

  1. Remove the relief valve assembly.

    1. Loosen bolt (2) slowly in order to release the compression on spring (4) .

    1. Remove the following items from the oil filter base: bolt (2), seat (3), spring (4) and retainer (6) .

    1. Remove spacer (5) from bolt (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) and washers (8) that hold cover (9).

  1. Remove cover (9) and O-ring seal (10) from oil filter base (20) .

  1. Remove retainer (11), spacer (12), spring (13), plunger (14), and retainer (15) from oil filter base (20) .

  1. Remove bolts (16), washers (17), cover (18), and O-ring seal (19) from oil filter base (20) .

  1. Remove the following items from oil filter base (20) : retainer (25), spacer (24), spring (23), retainer (22) and oil pump bypass valve (21) .

  1. Remove plug (26) and O-ring seal (27) from oil filter base (20) .

  1. Remove bolts (28) and washers (29) that hold cover (30) .

  1. Remove cover (30) and O-ring seal (31) from oil filter base (20) .

  1. Remove retainer (32), spacer (33), spring (34), plunger (35), and retainer (36) from oil filter base (20) .
