Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures. Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Turn off the fuel shutoff valve.
- Disconnect fuel lines (1) and (2). Put a cap and plug on all the openings immediately.

- Remove fuel filter (3) from the fuel filter base with Tool (A) .
- Remove bolts (4) and fuel filter base (5) .
Installation Procedure

Do not fill fuel filter housings with fuel before installing elements. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system components. |
- Install fuel filter base (5) with bolts (4) .

- Install fuel filter (3) to the fuel filter base. Follow the instructions on the fuel filter for the correct procedure.
- Remove the caps and plugs. Connect fuel lines (1) and (2) to the filter base.
- Turn on the fuel shutoff valve.
