SERVICE MAGAZINE, SEPTEMBER 15, 1980, PAGE 3. In the article, "6V2107 And 6V2110 Drive Adapter Assemblies Available To Connect Sleeve Metering Fuel Systems To Fuel Injection Test Bench," the Special Instruction, Form No. is wrong.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Two new drive adapter assemblies are available for use when testing the sleeve metering fuel systems on a fuel injection test bench. The new adapters provide a tang-type drive connection between the fuel injection test bench and the sleeve metering fuel system. This connection prevents axial tension on the fuel system camshaft which can possibly be caused by the flexible coupling on the test bench.

It is possible that the former solid connection permitted tension, caused by the flexible coupling, to be put on the camshaft.

This tension is a possible cause of camshaft thrust surface failures in the 3208 sleeve metering fuel systems.

The new 6V2107 and 6V2110 Drive Adapter Assemblies are a direct replacement for the 3P1552 Drive Adapter Assembly.

USE OF THE 6V2107 AND 6V2110 DRIVE ADAPTER ASSEMBLIES

First, install the 6V2107 Drive Adapter Assembly into the flexible coupling on the fuel injection test bench. Then, use a 3P1544 Timing Pin to hold the camshaft, and install the 6V2110 Drive Adapter on the sleeve metering fuel system camshaft. Engage the tang in the 6V2110 Adapter with the notch on the 6V2107 Adapter.

NOTE: The notch and tang are off-center and will fit together in only one position.

After the sleeve metering fuel system is installed on the fuel injection test bench, all of the air in the system must be removed.

See Special Instruction Form No. SEHS7466 "Using The Caterpillar Fuel Injection Test Bench," pages V1-20 for the correct procedure to remove air from the sleeve metering fuel system. The air also must be removed from the governor housing before rotation of the pump camshaft. To do this, loosen the plug for the timing pin hole. Then put pressure in the fuel system with the transfer pump on the test bench until test oil comes out of the timing pin hole.
