Alternator - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Put identification marks on wires (1) for the alternator. Disconnect wires (1) from the alternator.

    Typical example

  1. Loosen bolts (3) and (4). Remove belts (5) from the alternator. Remove bolts (3) and (4) from alternator (2) .

  1. Remove alternator (2) .

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

    Typical example

  1. Put alternator (2) in position and install bolt (4) finger tight. Put belt (5) in position on the pulleys and install bolt (3). Tighten bolt (4) .

  1. Apply tension to belt (5) and tighten bolt (3). Use a belt tension gauge to measure the belt farthest from the engine. Tighten new belts to 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb). Tighten used belts to 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb).

  1. connect wires (1) to the alternator.
