Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Put identification marks on the wires for the electric starting motor. Disconnect wires (3) from the electric starting motor.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.

    The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.

    Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly. Approximate weight of the body assembly is given below.

  1. Use two technicians to remove electric starting motor (2). The weight of the electric starting motor is 29 kg (64 lb). Remove three bolts (1) and electric starting motor (2) from the flywheel housing. Check the condition of the gasket for the electric starting motor. If the gasket is worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Installation Procedure

  1. Put the gasket and electric starting motor (2) in position on the flywheel housing. Install three bolts (1) .

  1. connect wires (3) to the electric starting motor.
