  1. Install Tooling (F).

  2. Use Tooling (G) in order to reposition the transmission housing. The weight of the transmission housing is approximately 41 kg (90 lb).

  3. Install ring seal (119) and ring seal (118).

  5. Install springs (116) and pins (115). Install plates and discs (114).

    Note: Pins (116) must be installed with the washer end away from the piston.

    Note: Lubricate the plates and discs lightly with the fluid that is being sealed.

  6. Install clutch plate (113). Install ring gear (112).

  7. Install bearing (111) and thrust washers (110) onto planetary gear (109).

  8. Install planetary gear (109). Install shaft (108). Install pin (107).

  9. Repeat Step 7 and Step 8 for the remaining planetary gears.

  10. Compress lock ring (105) and install planetary carrier (103) onto ring gear (106). Install retaining ring (104).

    Note: Use suitable blocking in order to support the planetary carrier.

  11. Use Tooling (L) and a suitable lifting device in order to install planetary carrier (103). The weight of planetary carrier (103) is approximately 20 kg (44 lb). Install thrust bearing (102). Ensure that thrust bearing (102) is orientated correctly.

  12. Install bearing carrier (101), sun gear (100), and retaining ring (99).

  13. Install shaft assembly (98). Install thrust bearing (97). Ensure that thrust bearing (97) is orientated correctly.

  14. Install springs (96) and pins (95). Install plates and discs (94).

    Note: Pins (95) must be installed with the washer end away from the piston.

    Note: Lubricate the plates and discs lightly with the fluid that is being sealed.

  16. Install bearing assembly (91) into shaft (90). Install shaft (90) into planetary carrier (74).

  17. Install bearings (89) and thrust washers (88) onto planetary gear (87).

  18. Install planetary gear (87). Install shaft (86). Install pin (85).

  19. Repeat Step 17 and Step 18 for the remaining planetary gears.

  20. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (84). Install bearing cone (84). Install bearing spacer (83).

  21. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (82). Use Tooling (J), bearing cone (80), and a suitable press in order to install bearing cup (82). Install retaining ring (81). Ensure that bearing cup (82) is seated correctly.

  22. Position housing assembly (73) onto planetary carrier (74).

  23. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (80). Install bearing cone (80) and output rotor (79). Use Tooling (K), output rotor (79), and a suitable press in order to press bearing cone (80) onto planetary carrier (74).

  24. Use Tooling (E) in order to install lip seal (78).

    Note: Lubricate the sealing lip of lip seal (78).

  27. Use Tooling (H) and a suitable lifting device in order to install housing assembly (73) and planetary carrier (74) as a unit. The weight of housing assembly (73) and planetary carrier (74) is approximately 39 kg (86 lb).

  28. Install bolts (75). Tighten bolts (75) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

  29. Remove Tooling (M).

  30. Install O-ring seal (72). Repeat this step for the remaining speed sensor.

  31. Install yoke (71). Install O-ring seal (70), and retainer (69). Apply Tooling (N) onto bolt (68). Install bolt (68). Tighten bolt (68) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (199 ± 30 lb ft).

  32. Install speed sensor (67). Install bolt (66) and the retainer. Tighten bolt (66) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft). Install speed sensor (65). Install bolt (64) and the retainer. Tighten bolt (64) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft).

  33. Connect harness assemblies (63) and install the connecting hardware.

  34. Use Tooling (G) in order to reposition the transmission. The weight of the transmission is approximately 181 kg (400 lb).

  37. Install thrust bearing (60). Install thrust disc (59). Install piston (58). Ensure that thrust bearing (60) is orientated correctly.

    Dimension (X) equals 0.25 ± 0.13 mm (0.010 ± 0.005 inch).

  38. Install bearings (57) and thrust discs (56) onto planetary gear (55). Install planetary gear (55). Install shaft (54). Install pin (53). Repeat this step for the remaining planetary gears.

  39. Lower the temperature of bearing sleeve (52). Use Tooling (D) in order to install bearing sleeve (52) to a depth that is equal to Dimension (X) from Surface (Y).

  40. Compress retaining ring (50). Install planetary carrier (49) onto ring gear (51).

    Note: Use suitable blocking in order to support the planetary carrier.

  41. Use two people in order to install planetary carrier (49). The weight of planetary carrier (49) is approximately 16 kg (35 lb).

  42. Install springs (48) and pins (47). Install plates and discs (46). Install thrust bearing (45). Ensure that thrust bearing (45) is orientated correctly.

  64. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to compress retainer (11) and spring (12). Install retaining ring (13).

    Note: Apply a thin coat of transmission oil onto the plates and discs prior to assembly.

  69. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device in order to install rotating clutch (1). The weight of rotating clutch (1) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

End By:

  1. Install the torque converter housing.

  2. Install the torque converter.
