Relief Valve - Remove and Install

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat^® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install Tooling (A) on to transmission housing.

The weight of transmission (1) is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb). Use a suitable lifting device in order to install transmission (1) onto Tooling (B).
Use Tooling (B) to position transmission (1) vertically.

Remove bolts (2). Remove cover and O-ring seal (3).

Remove screen (4) and magnetic filter (5).

Remove retaining ring (8) and modulating drain relief valve (9).

Remove O-ring seal (10).

Install modulating drain relief valve (9) in the reverse order of removal.
1. Apply Tooling (C) onto Surfaces (X) and (Y) of the transmission housing and the torque converter housing.
2. Position oil pan (7). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 70 lb ft).
3. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m (21 ± 5 lb ft).
