Tachometer Drive

Usage:

Remove & Install Tachometer Drive

1. Remove over speed contractor (1) from adapter assembly (4).

2. Remove bolts (2) and the clamps. Remove adapter assembly (4) from cover assembly (3).

3. Remove bolts (5) and cover assembly (3).

4. Remove shaft (6).

5. If necessary, remove dowels (7), bearing (8) and the seal from cover assembly (3).

6. Remove bolt (10) and adapter (9).

7. Install adapter (9) on the camshaft drive gear and bolt (10). Tighten bolt (10) as follows:

a. Tighten bolt (10) to a torque of 360 ± 40 N·m (270 ± 30 lb ft).

b. Hit adapter (9) with a soft hammer to seat the camshaft drive gear on the camshaft.

c. Tighten bolt (10) again to a torque of 360 ± 40 N·m (270 ± 30 lb ft).

d. Repeat Steps 1b and 1c until the torque does not change.

8. Install dowels (7) in cover assembly (3) so they extend 6.0 ± 0.5 mm (.24 ± .02 in) above the surface of the cover assembly.

9. If bearing (8) was removed from the cover assembly, install the bearing with tooling (A) until it is 26 ± 1 mm (1.02 ± .04 in) below the outside surface of the cover assembly.

10. If seal (11) was removed from the cover assembly, install the seal with tooling (A) until the seal makes contact with the bottom of the bore in cover assembly (3). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the bearing. Put clean engine oil on the lip of the seal.

11. Install shaft (6) in cover assembly (3).

12. Install the gasket and cover assembly (3) on the flywheel housing. Make sure the splines on shaft (6) are engaged with the splines in adapter (9). Install bolts (5).

13. Install adapter assembly (4) on cover assembly (3). Install the clamps and bolts (2).

14. Install overspend contractor (1) on adapter assembly (4).
