Usage:
1. Check that all wiring and harness connections are good, and INSURE A GOOD GROUND CONNECTION IS MADE.
2. Check that the circuit breaker is not tripped or the fuse is not blown for the power feed to the system. This may be confirmed by connecting the VOM the red wire (+) on the control module wire harness to the green wire (-), and reading +12 Vdc with the system energized.
3. Check if the clutch switch is wired into the engine harness connector P7 pin G (Cat P/N 8C5638).
4. The C-317 has built-in diagnostic features which can only be utilized by use of a Dash-Module ( (see Figure A). By using the Dash-Module, troubleshooting of the C-317 engine retarder control module is simplified (most of the troubleshooting can be done within the cab). The C-317 control has self-testing features which allow the user to check all input and output connections without leaving the driver's seat. Follow the step-by-step procedure of the subject 'Troubleshooting The C-317 Engine Retarder Control Module ( with Dash-Module equipped control module).
5. If the control module being used does not have a Dash-Module, continue to the subject, 'Troubleshooting The C-317 Engine Retarder Control Module ( without Dash-Module equipped control module).
