| The hoses that are routed through the swing casting at the rear of the machine can rub against the rough cast material on certain F and F2 Series Backhoe Loaders. This rubbing can cause some of the hoses to prematurely wear. |

| This Service Letter was written to cover all F2 Series machines, and any F-Series machines that are still in dealers storage (new, un-delivered). Please make every effort to rework your stock machines before delivery to any customers. A new hose protector plate (guard) is now available to reduce this wear. The hose protector plate (guard) can be installed on the affected machines. Because some of the hoses may have already worn, these hoses should be replaced before installing the hose protector. Damaged hoses may cause the hose protector to wear through and reduce its effectiveness. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release", for additional information. Usually, only two or three of the hoses are damaged (the ones that are on the bottom of the group of hoses. NOTE: ONLY REPLACE THE HOSE IF THE WIRE OF THE HOSE ARE VISIBLE. Scuffing of the rubber surface is acceptable as long as the wires are not visible. Refer to Image1 for examples of damaged hoses with wires showing. The hose protector plate (guard) fits on the swing casting. Refer to Image2. - 14 foot reach machines use the 422-8652 Protector Plate (Guard) - 16 foot reach machines use the 465-3494 Protector Plate (Guard) Before attempting to fit the protector plate (guard), lower the boom and stick fully. This raises the hoses out of the way giving clearance to install the protector plate (guard). Ensure the swing casting is clean of any grease and debris before the protector plate (guard) is installed. If new hoses have been fitted, then three new 5P-5148 Cable Straps will need to be installed. Ensure that the cable straps are evenly spaced, and tighten so they do not move. Please take a pictures of any damaged hoses you are claiming for and attach the image to SIMSi with the claim. IMPORTANT: Claims without a picture may be returned unpaid. |
