PROBLEM
The hydraulic lockout control does not shut down the hydraulics to the harvesting head on certain TK711 and TK721 Track Feller Bunchers. In order to prevent an unintentional activation of a head function, a relay must be added to the electrical circuit that supplies power to the head computer. When the control is locked, the relay will open the cicuit and shut down the head computer.AFFECTED PRODUCT

SAFETY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING A RELAY IN THE THE HYDRAULIC LOCKOUT CONTROL CIRCUIT
MODELS INVOLVED - TK711 AND TK721 TRACK FELLER BUNCHERS
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The hydraulic lockout control does not shut down the hydraulics to the harvesting head. The operator may be able to unintentionally activate a harvesting head function that may cause personal injury or death. A relay needs to be installed on the products listed below. Installing the new relay will allow the hydraulic lockout control to shut down the hydraulics to the harvesting head. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated February 19, 2005 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed for your added safety and satisfaction.

Rework Procedure
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the off position.
- Remove the fuse panel cover.
- Refer to Illustration 1 for the wiring configuration.
- Install the 3E5239 Relay to the fuse panel with the screw and washer listed in Illustration 2. The relay should be mounted vertically with the terminals pointing down.
- Crimp a 2L8079 Terminal onto an appropriate length of 5P5624 Wire and fasten this to the existing cab ground boss. Insert the other end of this wire into position 5 of the 9X1054 Plug and pull the wire through the plug. Install a 9X1056 Terminal on the wire. Then, pull the wire back into the connector to lock the terminal in place.
- Disconnect the 158-PK Wire from the LogMate plug assembly. Remove the pin connector from the 158-PK Wire. Using an 8S4626 Splice, connect an appropriate length of 5P5624 Wire to the 158-PK Wire. Insert the other end of this wire into position 4 of the 9X1054 Plug and pull the wire through the plug. Install a 9X1056 Terminal on the wire. Then, pull the wire back into the connector to lock the terminal in place.
- Install a 1261767 Connector Pin onto an appropriate length of 5P5624 Wire and insert into pin 1 of the LogMate Plug. Insert the other end of this wire into position 1 of the 9X1054 Plug and pull the wire through the plug. Install a 9X1056 Terminal on the wire. Then, pull the wire back into the connector to lock the terminal in place.
- Using an 1158109 Splice, connect an appropriate length of 1744290 Wire to the E997-BR Wire that is located on the IQAN XP2-A0 Module. Protect this splice with a length of 1193662 Heat Shrink Tubing. Heat the tubing to seal the splice. Insert the other end of this wire into position 2 of the 9X1054 Plug and pull the wire through the plug. Install a 9X1056 Terminal on the wire. Then, pull the wire back into the connector to lock the terminal in place. Connect the 9X1054 Plug into the 3E5239 Relay.
- Install the fuse panel cover.
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the on position.
- Test the lockout lever for correct operation. The computer that operates the harvesting head should power off when the hydraulic lockout control is in the locked position.
