MODELS INVOLVED - CERTAIN 826G AND 826G SERIES II LANDFILL COMPACTORS
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
A new positive battery cable needs to be installed on the products listed below. The battery cable could malfuction and start a fire, which could lead to personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated March 2, 2005 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed for your added safety and satisfaction.

Rework Procedure
Group 1
- Remove the existing battery cable connecting the machine starter to the junction block in the battery compartment. Discard the cable and p-clips.
- Install 268-3760 Cable As (1) using 6D-4246 p-clips and 2V-1771 Grommet (2). Orient and install the p-clips as shown. See Illustration 1.
- Inspect and eliminate all interference between the battery cable and any other component prior to retuning the machine to service.

- Remove the existing battery cable and associated p-clips connecting the machine starter to the junction block in the battery compartment. Discard the cable and p-clips.
- Install 262-7651 Cable As (1) using 6D-4246 p-clips and 2V-1771 Grommets (2). Orient and install the p-clips as shown. See Illustration 2.
- Inspect and eliminate all interference between the battery cable and any other component prior to retuning the machine to service.

- Remove the existing p-clips on the battery cable connecting the machine starter to the junction block in the battery compartment. Discard the p-clips.
- Install 5P8939 p-clips and 4S1962 Grommets (1). Orient and install the p-clips as shown. See Illustration 3.
- Inspect and eliminate all interference between the battery cable and any other component prior to retuning the machine to service.
