Drum Support, Vibratory Side

Usage:

Remove And Install Drum Support, Vibratory Side

Start By:

a. remove drum assembly (CS-433B & CP-433B or CB-431B)

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent possible personal injury during servicing of the drum assembly, block it so it can not roll.

--------WARNING!------

1. Put wood blocks in front of and behind the drum assembly so it can not roll.

2. Remove the front and rear shock mount spacers from the vibratory side of the drum assembly. See, "Remove And Install Drum Assembly" for the CS-433B, CP-433B and CS-431B is this module.

3. Remove plug (1), and drain the lubricant from the drum support. The capacity of the drum support is 1.5 liters (0.50 U.S. gal). Put a thin coat of 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of plug (1), and reinstall it in the drum support.

4. Remove the vibratory motor. See, "Remove And Install Vibratory Motor" in this module.

5. Put an alignment mark on the drum support cover and hub for assembly purposes.

6. Remove four long bolts (3) and eight short bolts (4) that hold the drum support cover to the drum support hub. Remove cover (2).

7. Remove three bolts (6) and magnetic sensor guard (5).

8. Removee the rubber protector cover from magnetic sensor (7). Put identification marks on the two wires connected to the magnetic sensor. Disconnect the wires from the magnetic sensor. Remove the magnetic sensor from the drum support hub.

9. Remove splined coupling (8).

10. Loosen two bolts (10), and remove sprocket (9) from the inner drive shaft.

NOTICE

During removal of the inner drive shaft, do not nick it, or damage the bushings inside the drum assembly.

11. Remove inner drive shaft (11).

------ WARNING! ------

Lifting the drum assembly without using the correct link brackets and hoist can cause the drum assembly to spin and fall. This can result in equipment damage or personal injury. Be sure the area around the drum assembly is clear before the drum assembly is moved.

--------WARNING!------

12. Fasten tool (A) and a hoist to the drum assembly as shown. Set the drum assembly on end, with the vibratory side facing up as shown. Weight of the smooth drum assembly is 1882 kg (4150 lb). Weight of the padded drum is 2132 kg (4700 lb).

13. Remove the eight bolts and washers holding the drum mounting assembly and hub to the drum assembly. Rotate the drum mounting assembly to gain access to all eight bolts and washes.

14. Fasten a hoist to drum support (12). Remove the drum support and hub from the drum assembly. Weight of the drum support is 102 kg (225 lb). Remove the rubber gasket from under the drum support.

15. Remove four rubber shock mounts (13) from the drum support.

16. Rotate the drum support by hand. Check the condition of bearing (14) in the hub. If the drum support does not rotate smoothly, disassemble the drum support, and replace the bearing.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the drum support (vibratory side).

NOTICE

Do not reuse elastic filled stop nuts during installation of the drum support. The used nut should be discarded and replaced with new parts.

17. Install four rubber shock mounts (13) on the drum support.

18. Install inner drive shaft (11) in the drum assembly. Be sure the splines on the end of the drive shaft engage at the propel side of the drum assembly. Install a new rubber gasket (15) on the drum assembly as shown.

19. Fasten a hoist to drum support (12), and put it in position on the drum assembly. Install the eight bolts and washers that hold it. Rotate the drum support as necessary to install the bolts and washers.

------ WARNING! ------

Lifting the drum assembly without using the correct tooling can cause the drum assembly to spin and fall. This can result in equipment damage or personal injury. Be sure the area around the drum assembly is clear before the drum assembly is moved.

--------WARNING!------

20. Using a hoist, tool (A) and tool (B), put the drum assembly on its side. Put wood blocks in front of and behind the drum assembly so it can not roll.

21. If the drum assembly was disassembled, check the drive shaft adjustment as follows to set the gap between the end of the drive shaft and the end of the vibratory motor shaft:

NOTE: In Photos C30986P1 and C30987P1, the drum drive plate and gear reducer have been removed for better photo illustration.

a. From the vibratory side of the drum assembly, push inner drive shaft (11) in as far as possible.

b. Remove drain plug (16) from the center of the bearing housing located on the propel side of the drum assembly. Insert a rod in the bearing housing. Push hard on the rod to shift the eccentric weight shaft toward the vibratory side of the drum assembly. Remove the rod.

c. Remove bolt (17) from the bearing housing. Put a thin coat of 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of bolt (17), and reinstall it in the bearing housing.

d. Put a flat bar or ruler across the machined face of the drum support hub as shown. While turning bolt (16) in or out, measure the distance from the end of the inner drive shaft to the machined face of the drum support hub. Dimension (X) must be 29.5 mm (1.16 in). This will provide the necessary gap between the end of the inner drive shaft and the end of the vibratory motor shaft. Reinstall drain plug (16).

22. Install sprocket (9) and the two bolts that hold it. Install the magnetic sensor in the drum support hub. Turn the magnetic sensor in until it makes contact with one of the teeth on the sprocket. Back the magnetic sensor out one full turn. Adjust the clearance between the end of the magnetic sensor and the sprocket tooth until it is 1.57 mm (.062 in). Use a feeler gauge (18) to check the clearance.

23. Connect the two wires to the magnetic sensor. Install the rubber protector cover on the end of the sensor. Install the magnetic sensor guard.

24. Install splined coupling (8) on the end of the inner drive shaft.

25. Put a bead of 8T9022 General Purpose Adhesive Sealant on the machined surface of the drum support hub. Install drum support cover (2) in its original position on the drum support hub. Install the twelve bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 58 to 64 N·m (43 to 47 lb ft).

26. Install the vibratory motor. See, "Remove And Install Vibratory Motor" in this module.

27. Install the front and rear shock mount spacers on the vibratory side of the drum assembly. See, "Remove And Install Drum Assembly" for the CS-433B, CP-433B and CS-431B in this module.

28. Fill the drum support with the specified lubricant. The capacity of the drum support is 1.5 liters (0.50 U.S. gal). See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.

End By:

a. install drum assembly (CS-433B & CP-433B or CS-431B)
