Start By:
a. remove drum assembly (CS-431B)
To prevent possible injury during servicing of the drum assembly, block it so that it can not roll. |
1. Put wood blocks in front of and behind the drum assembly so it can not roll.
2. Place a mark on drum support bracket (1) indicating its position on the drum.
3. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to drum support bracket (1). Remove eight bolts (2) and remove drum support bracket. Weight of the drum support bracket is 14 kg (30 lb).
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove secondary brake (4) from the brake disc plate (3). However, it is helpful, due to balance, to have it removed for both removal and installation of the brake disc plate.
NOTE: Center nut (5) and the threaded rod have left hand threads.
4. Attach a hoist and strap to the secondary brake as shown. Remove the cotter pin and tighten the center nut (5) on the secondary brake. This will release the secondary brake from the brake disc plate. Remove the secondary brake. Its weight is 24 kg (52 lb).
5. Place a mark on the brake disc plate (3) indicating its position on the drum.
6. Attach a hoist and tooling (B) to the brake disc plate (3). Remove ten nuts (6) securing the brake disc plate to the drum support assembly. Remove brake disc plate. Its weight is 52 kg (115 lb).
7. Place a mark on the vibratory arm (7) indicating its position on the drum.
8. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to the drum support assembly. Remove sixteen bolts, nuts and washers (8) securing the drum support assembly and vibratory arm (7) to the rubber shock mounts. Remove drum support assembly and vibratory arm. Its weight is 111 kg (245 lb).
9. Check the condition of four rubber shock mounts (10). If the mounts show any indication of severe cracking, fatigue or breakage, use a new part for replacement. To remove rubber shock mounts (10), remove four bolts (9) on each of the shock mounts.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the drum support, (secondary brake side).
NOTICE |
---|
Do not reuse elastic filled stop nuts during installation of the drum support (secondary brake side). The used nuts should be discarded and replaced with new parts. |
10. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to the drum support assembly. Align the matching scribe marks made during disassembly. Attach the drum support assembly and vibratory arm (7) to the shock mounts (10) using sixteen bolts, nuts and washers (8).
11. Attach a hoist and tooling (B) to the brake disc plate (3). Align the matching scribe marks made during disassembly. Attach brake disc plate (3) to the drum support assembly using ten nuts (6).
NOTE: Center nut (5) and threaded stud have left hand threads.
12. If secondary brake (4) was removed, attach a hoist to the secondary brake bracket. Place it in position at approximately the same position as it was during disassembly. Loosen center nut (5) on the secondary brake thus locking it to brake disc plate (3). Replace the cotter pin in the end of the threaded rod. Refer to Photo C32976P1.
13. Attach a hoist and tooling (A) to drum support bracket (1). Align the matching scribe marks made during disassembly. Attach the drum support bracket to the drum support assembly using eight bolts (2).
NOTE: It will be necessary to slightly rotate the drum during installation of the drum assembly to allow the bolt holes of the secondary brake to line up with the yoke assembly.
