Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.


  1. Disconnect battery cables.

  2. Remove guard (1).

  3. Remove the belt. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belt - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" to remove and install the belt.

  4. Disconnect harness assembly (2), cable assembly (3), and cable assembly (4).

  5. Remove bolt (5), bolt (7), and alternator (6).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install alternator (6) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 4 ± 1 N·m (35 ± 9 lb in).

    2. Tighten nut (9) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).

    3. Tighten nut (10) to a torque of 100 ± 5 N·m (74 ± 4 lb ft).

    4. Tighten nut (11) to a torque of 4 ± 1 N·m (35 ± 9 lb in).
