Conditions Which Generate This Code:

EID 1483 Low Autonomous Cabinet Fan Speed

Follow this procedure if an event EID 1483 Low Autonomous Cabinet Fan Speed occurs. When this event code is activated, the autonomous mining truck (AMT) will continue to function normally. This code is activated when the reported fan speed is too slow. This reduced speed could be caused by restricted power or obstruction to the fan.

Note: Ensure that there are no active diagnostic codes prior to beginning this procedure.

Test Step 1. VISUALLY INSPECT THE FAN WITHIN THE AUTONOMOUS CABINET.

  1. The fan in the autonomous cabinet can be found on the left-hand side when looking into the cabinet access panel.

  2. Key OFF the AMT and ensure that the fan has stopped.

  3. Visually inspect for objects and debris.

  4. Manually rotate fan to ensure that the fan rotates freely.

Expected Result:

An object or other debris is preventing the fan from rotating freely.

Results:

  • An object or other debris is preventing the fan from rotating freely. - Proceed to Test Step 2

  • No visual obstruction can be seen in the area of the fan. - Proceed to Test Step 3

Test Step 2. CLEAR DEBRIS OR OBSTRUCTION FROM THE CABINET FAN.

  1. The fan in the autonomous cabinet can be found on the left-hand side when looking into the cabinet access panel.

  2. Key OFF the AMT and ensure that the fan has stopped.

  3. Safely remove objects or debris from fan.

  4. Visually inspect that all objects and debris have been removed.

  5. Manually rotate fan to ensure that the fan rotates freely.

Expected Result:

An object or other debris is removed and the fan is rotating freely.

Results:

  • An object or other debris is removed and the fan is rotating freely. - STOP

  • An object or other debris is removed but the fan is still hindered. - Proceed to Test Step 3

  • Fan is damaged by the obstruction, requiring replacement. - Proceed to Test Step 6

Test Step 3. RUN A CAT ET SERVICE TEST ON THE FAN.

  1. Select the Diagnostic menu.

  2. Select the Diagnostic Tests menu option.

  3. Select Machine Control.

  4. Double click Override Parameters.

  5. Set Autonomous Cabinet Cooling Fan Override to ON.

  6. Click yes.

  7. Click Autonomous Cabinet Cooling Fan Speed/Direction Override.

  8. Set to 3000 rpm.

  9. Click Yes.

  10. Visually verify that the fan in the cabinet is running.

Expected Result:

Fan is functioning as expected.

Results:

  • Fan is functioning as expected. -

Repair: Set Autonomous Cabinet Cooling Fan Override to OFF.

    Proceed to Test Step 4

  • Fan fails to respond to override. - Proceed to Test Step 4

Test Step 4. CHECK FAN VOLTAGE.

    Illustration 2g03327674

  1. Measure voltage between contact 1 (Power) and contact 2 (Ground) on Harness, as shown by the red arrows. Voltage should be 27V (within the range of 18-32V).

Note: A voltage less than 27V may still prevent fan from reaching desired speed.

  2. Measure voltage between contact 1 (Enable Signal) and contact 2 (Ground) on Harness, as shown by the blue arrows. Voltage should be 27V (within the range of 18-32V).

Note: Any voltage less than 27V may prevent fan from reaching desired speed.

Expected Result:

Voltage below expected on one or both connections.

Results:

  • Voltage reading below expected on one or both connections. - Proceed to Test Step 5

  • Voltage reading within normal range on both connections. - Proceed to Test Step 6

Test Step 5. CHECK POWER SUPPLY AND CONNECTIONS.

  1. Troubleshoot the power supply, ensure proper voltage output.

  2. Verify that all connections and harnesses are intact and secure. Correct if necessary.

  3. Once corrected, verify voltage at plugs as shown in Test Step 5.

  4. Continue troubleshooting power supply until correct voltage output is achieved.

Expected Result:

Loose or damaged connections and/or harnesses are corrected.

Results:

  • Voltage reading within normal range. - STOP

  • Voltage reading within normal range but fan functionality still below expected level. The cause of the problem is uncertain. Contact Caterpillar technical support with the information that has been gathered. - STOP

Test Step 6. REPLACE THE FAN IN AUTONOMOUS CABINET.

  1. Order and replace damaged fan.

Expected Result:

New fan installed and functional.

Results:

  • New fan installed and functional. - STOP

  • Fan replacement did not correct the problem. Contact Caterpillar technical support with the information that has been gathered. - STOP
