Overspeed Verification of the Marine Power Display (MPD){7410, 7427, 7490}

The following procedure for Overspeed verification in the MPD applies to the following engines:

  • Marine Auxiliary

  • Marine Propulsion

The panel for the MPD verifies the functionality for the overspeed for both the primary ECM and secondary ECM simultaneously. No additional procedure is needed to perform verification for the secondary ECM (Propulsion Engine).

Refer to Step 1 through Step 4 in order to test the overspeed verification.

    Screens of Information

    (1) "Menu" button

  1. Scroll through the screens of information that are displayed on the MPD. Depress the "Menu" button (1) in order to display the "Engine Configuration" screen. Refer to Illustration 1.

    (2) Down Arrow Button

  1. Depress the Down Arrow button (2) in order to select the "Overspeed Verify". Refer to Illustration 2.

    (3) "Change Torque Limit" Button

  1. Depress the "Change Torque Limit" button (3) in order to select the ON position for the "Overspeed Verify".

  1. Run the engine at 75 percent of the value that is programmed for overspeed.

    An overspeed event will activate. An entry for the event will be logged. The engine will shut down. With the shutting down of the engine, the procedure to verify overspeed is completed.

  1. Cycle power to the engine in order to bring the engine back to a normal stage. The Overspeed verification will not be active.
