Replacing The Temperature Control Cable On 953C, 963C, and 973C Track-Type Loaders{7337}

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the procedure for replacing the temperature control cable on 953C, 963C, and 973C Track-Type Loaders.

Procedure for Replacement of Cable

  1. Remove the seat. Refer to the following publications for further information.

    • Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1773, "953C Track-Type Loader Machine Systems", "Seat - Remove and Install"

  1. Remove cover (1) .

  1. Remove cover (2) .

  1. Unplug the wiring harness connections.

  1. Remove clip (3) from the control cable.

  1. Remove the probe for the thermostat and thermostat switch (4) .

  1. Remove the three mounting bolts and remove plate (5) .

    Note: Remove nut (6) in order to access the center mounting bolt.

  1. Remove retaining clip (7) that holds the end of the control cable to the water valve.

  1. Remove control knobs (8) and four screws (9). Remove retaining nuts (10) and remove the control plate.

  1. Remove the old cable from the machine. Remove grommet (11) from the sidewall of the cab.

  1. Attach the 168-9896 Seal to the back of the 168-9895 Plate As .

  1. Install the new plate. Make sure that the plate goes under the water valve.

  1. Secure the water valve to the plate with 8T-0288 Bolts (12) and the 8T-0328 Hard Washers .

  1. Install 011-7960 Grommet (13) in 208-5361 Plate As (14). Install 153-6271 Cable (15).

  1. Install the cable and the plate assembly. Do not bend the cable too much. Do not kink the cable. Bending the cable too much will shorten the service life of the cable. Kinking the cable will cause the cable to fail. Ensure that the dust boot is positioned properly. Ensure that the dust boot is snug on both ends of the tube at the head of the cable. Attach the fan switch to the control plate first with a retaining nut. Then attach the temperature control cable to the control plate with a retaining nut. Attach the control plate to the machine with four 9X-2045 Screws .

    Note: The cable can be attached to the control plate 180 degrees from the correct position. Prior to attaching the control plate to the machine, loosely install the control knob. Rotate the knob and verify that the indicated temperature matches the position of the cable. If the cable has been attached 180 degrees from the correct position, fix this condition before attaching the control plate to the machine.

  1. Install 011-7960 Grommet (16) in the sidewall of the cab. Install the cable through the grommet.

  1. Install the 8C-5224 Seal Plug (17) in the hole in the sidewall.

  1. Attach the cable to the plate with 8M-2771 Clip (18), 9X-8256 Washer , and 8T-4171 Bolt .

    Note: Make sure that the rubber coated part of the clip faces the rear of the machine.

  1. Attach the cable to the heater control valve with existing clip (19). Attach the end of the cable to the valve with 191-3379 Retaining Ring (20) .

  1. Transfer the electrical components from the old plate to the new plate. Secure the wiring harness to the new plate with cable straps. Reconnect all electrical connections.

  1. Reinstall the thermostat switch and the probe.

  1. Reinstall the covers and the seat.
